The Philadelphia Jug Band traces its roots to the Second Philadelphia Folk Festival where two of the band members as high school kids heard Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band for the first time. We never turned back! At that time there was an explosion of jug band music that was a fun-filled, irreverent offshoot of the massive folk revival. There was a lot of great material to draw from, and we soaked it up. From the beginning, our best venue was the festival. Before there was camping, we camped. Once there was camping, we would play and welcome any and all to join. The Jug Band Campsite has grown as our families and friends have expanded, and is one of the “must stop” places for festers doing a “walk about”. There is a parade of great musicians through each night – and always a surprise or two. Our fest roots have led to many other opportunities at festivals and venues but in the end, the greatest love of the band is the Philadelphia Folk Festival and its awesome campground.
