ABOUT ABOUT

"Andrea’s voice is sultry, sweet, and playful, infusing the music with elements of earthy blues, retro jazz, and romantic swing. Her guitar is classical, adding elegance and intimacy. And her large repertoire is a mix of standards and originals, in the vein of the Great American Songbook and Parisian Chanson; audiences and critics rave about her performances around the USA and in Europe"

Singer, guitarist, and composer, Andrea Carlson burst onto the Delaware Valley music scene in 2009, winning the Philadelphia Songwriters Award for her song, "Cryin'". She followed with a completely original CD, “Drivin’ Myself Wild For You”, featuring another prize winner, "Mysterious Moon", and then her current CD, "Love Can Be So Nice" (with another honor for “Let Me Cook For You”), showcasing standards and originals in English and French. For the past seven summers, Andrea has gone on the road in Europe, playing a dozen countries and headlining at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Stan Slotter is one of the most sought-after session musicians in the Delaware Valley, a trumpet player and flutist doubling on flugelhorn and alto flute, playing jazz (swing, straight ahead, Big Band, Latin, fusion, Avant Garde and Funk), Salsa, Klezmer and Middle eastern music. Stan’s musicality and versatility has made him a perfect complement to Andrea, in concert and in the studio (“Love Can Be So Nice” and her upcoming CD).

David Bopdrummer has been Andrea’s regular percussionist for six years, at home and abroad. He grew up playing in marching and symphonic bands, dance bands, (even garage bands), and adds elements of swing and bebop groove to Andrea’s unique compositions.

Born in Tennessee, Andrea has lived in California, Texas, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. She began singing jazz professionally in small groups and with a big band, while in high school. Performances then included opening for the great James Brown! She earned her degree in Classical Guitar at the Columbia Conservatory, before she left Chicago – first for Memphis and then the east coast. Today, often heard with her Love Police, she is one of the busiest singers in the greater Philadelphia and mid-Atlantic region. Andrea’s third CD is currently in production at MorningStar Studios, where Grammy Award-winning engineer Glenn Barratt has overseen her previous albums as well. Appearing at Jamey’s with players from those sessions, she will perform her favorite songs, both new and previously released.
